First project, is a 99 Honda Civic EX 5spd. I had bought the car with a blown head gasket from a friend I used to work with for a good deal. He was running a stock 1.6L SOHC D16 engine with a T3 Turbonetics turbo, cast manifold, DeltaGate2 external wastegate, 2 1/4 downpipe, stock cat, stock ecu, Rising Rate FMU, MAP block, inline "boostapump" and I'm sure a couple other things I'm not remembering.
I replaced the head gasket, and while I was there, I installed a new timing belt, water pump, head studs, ported/polished head, Crower stage 2 cam, Crower valvetrain, adjustable cam gear, 1mm oversized stainless valves, Walbro in tank fuel pump(removed in-line pump & FMU), AEM adjustable fuel pressure regulator, Skunk 2 intake, 71mm throttle body, OBD1 ecu/harness/Neptune(removed MAP block), XS manual boost controller, and had it dyno tuned w/ Neptune from a performance shop I will not mention...
The car dyno'd 90WHP in stock form, and 202WHP after(w/ only the 270cc injectors that were the wrong ones, supposed to be 440's).To make a long story short, the tune was VERY bad(sounded like a ball bearing was inside the engine at times). Long story there...
By this time I was in the works of opening NorthWest Performance, so I didn't have much money or time. So I got the car running decent by manually street tuning it, turned the boost down to 7 psi from 12psi, retarded the timing a bit and made it drivable to and from the shop. Well, sure enough the engine developed a rod knock and so it starts.....
I bought all new parts and I'm planning 2 stages for this build. First, I bought a used D16 engine for $200 with 70K miles I am going to use while the bad engine goes off to the machine shop to get freshened up. Then there is stage 2, the fresh built block will be installed and tweeked to the max!! My goal is 350-400+WHP at the end of the second stage. I will be building this in my free time...
